Same-sex Tuscany elopements are one of my specialties! The are very intimate celebrations focused entirely on the couple. Eloping is about building an authentic experience around the “I DO” part. It can be luxurious and exciting, as was the case with Larry and James.
THE VENUE
They eloped in a sumptuous villa in an enchanted Renaissance hamlet in Chianti, where lush vineyards and age-old woods are the perfect background for an aristocratic wedding.
THE BRIEFING
We had some great time when we met for a quick briefing just before the ceremony. They were both very happy about committing to each other for the rest of their lives.
LOVE IS LOVE!
I had the honor to officiate their ceremony in the unique setting of a splendid 16th century Church, dedicated to San Carlo Borromeo, in a timeless atmosphere.
If you are asking how this was possible in Italy, where only heterosexual couples can get married in a church, this is a good question. The Bishop of that Parish is a very open-minded person, and when we asked for an authorization to officiate a same-sex wedding, he replied: “Love is love, no matter the gender of lovers.” And that was a great lesson for us all…
THE MUSIC
First off, the sweet and delicate tones of a violin conveyed a romantic atmosphere of rare beauty.
THE CEREMONY
In a moving atmosphere, they pronounced their heartfelt vows, and then lit a Unity Candle to confirm their commitment to each other. At the end of the ceremony, they signed a Certificate of Marriage, which was not legal but had a deep meaning for both of them.
THE DINNER
After an intimate aperitif on a private terrace overlooking the gardens of the Papal villa, they had an exclusive candlelight dinner in the loggia with a sophisticated gourmet menu, created by the talented Chef and served by a private waiter.
In conclusion, deep love can conquer all, and YES, Larry and James did definitely conquer us!
